MAY 25 - A day in south Cumbria for a rare moth and a threatened butterfly. Thanks to the help of Mo, finally managed to get a close look at this rare day-flying moth of short limestone grassland: Anania funebris (White-spotted Sable) on Latterbarrow. She had netted it for examination but the photo taken in the net is very poor quality, unfortunately. Once freed, it was away so no chance of a second try. Have seen the odd one here before but never managed to get close. Afterwards on nearby Whitbarrow, the Duke of Burgundy was at a favoured spot in the scrub (May 25, 2016).
